Australia Awards Scholarships
Australia Awards events prove to be a success for both awardees and alumni
A string of events for Australia Awards awardees and alumni took place in late July and the first week of August, most notably University Information Day, the Research Design workshop and the Research Journal Article Writing workshop.
Up to twenty five universities took part in the University Information Day in Ho Chi Minh City (1 August, 2014) and Hanoi (3 August, 2014), which aimed at sharing information about study opportunities among awardees of the Australia Awards Scholarships.
In Ho Chi Minh City, 60 awardees attended the event, while 130 awardees took part in Hanoi. Awardeesâ questions often centered around English requirements for admission at universities and available support for new students, for example, those with disabilities and those who will have dependents living with them during their studies.
Research awardees of the Australia Awards Scholarships from the 2014 selection round were also invited to the two-day Research Design workshop in Ho Chi Minh City (30-31 July, 2014) and Hanoi (4-5 August, 2014). Dr. David Annandale, International Academic Adviser of the Australia Awards Scholarship program, shared tips on how to succeed in the PhD studies in Australia. In particular Dr. Annandale gave guidance on how to design university standard research proposals. Forty awardees attended these workshops.
Another workshop of Dr. Annandale, the Journal Article Writing Training workshop for Australia Awards alumni, was organized in Can Tho (28 July), Ho Chi Minh City (29 July), Hue (2 August) and Hanoi (3 August). Dr. Annandale focused on how to structure and write an academic article for publication in peer-reviewed English language journals. He also advised on choosing the right journal and the most appropriate audience for their articles. Around 70 alumni attended the event in Ho Chi Minh City, 60 in Hue, 30 in Can Tho and nearly 150 in Hanoi, which indicated the strong interest in the topic.
